Design & Display
Xiaomi has extraordinary designs, and this time it comes with upgrades. The chin and bezels are smaller now, and the screen-to-body ratio is 90% higher. It has a plastic frame accompanied by a 2.5D Gorilla glass5 front and back that have splash-resistant Nano-coating.
The screen is a 6.3 inches DotDrop IPS LCD with an FHD+1080 x 2340 resolution. The display has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, which leads to 409 PPI pixel density. It is noteworthy to say that the display has a blue Light Certification to ensure your eyes’ safety.
The good news is that the display supports HDR10 to deliver a clear, punchy screen with great quality. The display also supports Color temperature adjustment, Standard mode, Reading mode and Sunlight mode.
You get to hold sheer beauty in your hands, thanks to the colors offered for this model that are Moonlight White, Neptune Blue, Space Black, Nebula Purple and Cosmic Purple.
The operating system on this smartphone is MIUI 10 on Android 9, which is upgradeable to higher versions.
The Redmi Note 8 supports Dark Mode. In Dark Mode, all system colors turn to black; and most of the apps have alternative designs to suit the Mode.
On the home screen, you can find the weather widget, clock widget and Quick Card pane.
It comes with dedicated features such as Gallery, Music, Video Player, and FM radio. MIUI offers a Security app that scans your phone for malware, restricts your data usage, frees up your RAM, etc. It also comes with an IR Blaster that turns your phone into a remote.
Internal design and Performance
The chipset used in Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 is Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665, which runs smooth and fast. It comes with ‘’boosted AI computing performance’’ to give you a decent gaming experience.
As for the memory, it comes with an impressive option of 3/4/6GB RAM; and the options for memory storage are 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.
The cameras had a huge upgrade. There are four cameras at the back of the phone plus the front selfie camera. With these powerful cameras, you can capture stunning photos in any condition.
First off, there is the main 48MP Wide camera with great quality and resolution. Then there is the Ultra Wide Camera that has an 8MP lens and offers a 120° field of view that supports automatic distortion correction. Next, we have the 2MP Macro camera with 2cm minimum focus distance and finally a 2 MP Depth sensor for better portrait shots. Furthermore, the selfie camera has an impressive 13MP quality that delivers beautiful images. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 photos are beautiful. The night mode is a feature that allows you to take beautiful pictures in low light conditions. The pictures come out noise-free and detailed, which is delightful.
The portrait Mode delivers eye-catching subject isolation with a wide dynamic range that is ‘’comparable to studio effects’’.
Pro mode is a pleasing feature that allows you to toggle settings like ISO and shutter speed. This feature helps you take great photos, even in poor lighting conditions.
You can shoot 4k videos at 30fps or 1080p videos at 30/60fps with high resolution and real-life depth.
The cameras also feature AI Beautify, HDR, single tone flash, AI scene detection, Steady handheld night photography, Panorama mode, Photo timer, Leveling, Burst mode HDR, edge distortion correction, Custom watermark, display brightness correction, AI seperation and a variety of filters.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has a Li-Po 4000 mAh battery. It supports Fast Charging up to 18W which gives you full-charge in 2 hours.
The Redmi Note 8 has a single super linear speaker placed at the bottom, which produces loud and high-quality sounds with great frequency response. It features Auto Cleaning, which means speaker sound waves clear away dust. It also supports Smart PA for clear phone calls, even in noisy places.
Some features of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 are accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, compass, gyro and proximity. As for Biometric Security, you can use the fingerprint sensor or face recognition.
